In September 2013 Gangaji gave a rare talk in the Santa Cruz area at the Inner Light Ministries in Soquel.
I had never heard Gangaji in person and so decided to attend. Prior to her talk I felt huge waves of love in my heart and, surprisingly, in the first 10 minutes of her talk, she talked glowingly about her friend Nome!
For the record: NO ONE talks about Nome…most especially in a public Satsang!!
She asked if anyone had heard of Nome. I was one of only a few to raise my hand. Meanwhile, Marilyn Madden was up on the balcony scanning the audience for their reaction.
Following that satsang there was a weekend mini-retreat held at the Sesnon House at Cabrillo College…the College where I worked.
In this mini-retreat there was further evidence of Gangaji’s support for, not only Nome, but indicating that she was aware of my having been marginalized and and of having endured a ‘character assassination.’ https://integrityintruth.com/clarification-of-videos/character-assassination/
Gangaji then led an (obvious) exercise of going around the room asking each of us to give a description of ‘who we are’…individually, (not spiritually)…so as to emphasize an ‘inclusiveness.’
I was touched by the motions of both Adyashanti and Gangaji in covering for Nome and helping with the existential burden I was being forced to carry for lies that were not mine to hold. That said, their obvious support for Nome, Russell Smith and Candace O’Denver would ALSO keep me silent for several years after that. If they had been in alignment with Truth they would not have participated in a cover-up but would have definitively stated that “This is not right.”
At that point, my feeling was if I spoke up I would somehow be affecting the trajectory of Awakening teachings. The pressure to martyr this life was enormous.
It was essentially a pressure to deny my own expression, and hence, awakening…not to mention communication with my family…which was profoundly affected in this life. It was a ‘death.’

As with many teachers Nome felt that ‘suffering’ was the way to liberation. It was certainly a prime reason, and excuse, to exercise existential control over others.
When one has lived a life of trauma further suffering is the last thing that anyone could possibly need for so-called liberation.
