Carl Jung viewed astrology not as a literal predictive science, but as a symbolic system that maps the archetypes of the collective unconscious. Jung’s approach to the stars can be broken down into four foundational ideas:

This theory suggests that events occurring at the exact same moment carry the fundamental quality of that moment in time. Therefore, a birth chart corresponds to the individual’s character not through physical causation, but through an acausal, meaningful correspondence.
3. The Birth Chart as a “Floor Plan”
Clinically, Jung used astrology as a projective framework to stimulate patient associations and uncover blind spots. He regarded the horoscope as a dynamic diagram representing the “original and fundamental qualities” of a person’s character. By examining the chart, he could observe the specific inner tensions and natural predispositions an individual was working with along their path of individuation.
